Five things we learned from a Champions League night where Leicester and Tottenham won, while Borussia Dortmund held Real Madrid in Germany.

Europe can’t handle Leicester

Two games. Two wins. Four goals. Zero conceded. What a start for Leicester in the Champions League, and it’s clear the European teams cannot handle their style.
The Foxes’ win featured long balls over the top, quick counter-attacks and resilient defending from Robert Huth and Wes Morgan… Sound familiar? The Leicester of last season came out to play on Tuesday night, and the 2004 European champions could not cope.
It was only 1-0, but we said that plenty of times last season in Leicester’s favour too…

Son is genuinely like a new signing

Son Heung-min is looking like Spurs’ best player by a distance currently. And all this after he so nearly left in the summer.
Having cost Tottenham £22m last August, the South Korean failed to make an impact during his first season, before asking for a move away.
Maurico Pochettino wanted him to stay, and so he did, and after missing South Korea’s World Cup qualifier to focus on his club career, the move has certainly paid off.
Son is making the most of Harry Kane’s absence and Dele Alli dropping further back, and he is now looking like a new signing for Spurs, and it’s fair to say the fans in North London did not expect this.
Five goals in five games, the Son is on fire.

Dortmund really could go all the way

Dortmund have not only a ridiculous team but a ridiculous squad, packed with exciting young players acquired for reasonable sums of money.
With stars such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mario Gotze, Ousmane Dembele and Andre Schurrle, there is surely no reason why they can’t go all the way in this year’s tournament. Thomas Tuchel’s men have quality throughout the team and a stunning array of attacking talent.

Mahrez, Vardy, Slimani: The vital trinity

It’s early in the relationship between Jamie Vardy, Islam Slimani and supplier Riyad Mahrez, but they all looked to be building an understanding even as the game progressed.
Sure there were a few misplaced passes, but there was the intent to work for one another - a selfless attitude which will only shoot Leicester back up the Premier League table.
These three need to stay fit, and Mahrez needs to bring his love for the Champions League back to the league - his cross tonight was sublime, and the moment of magic Leicester needed.
Will the MVS acronym catch on? No, but hey ho.

Cristiano Ronaldo back smiling, back scoring

It only took Ronaldo 17 minutes to get on the scoresheet, and he appeared more delighted than normal as he celebrated the goal.
It may not have led to a Real Madrid victory, but it was clearly evident that all is well for the forward, despite his petulant reaction to being substituted at the weekend.
Zinedine Zidane very obviously has the respect of his players and when Ronaldo is smiling and scoring, everyone at the club can breathe a sigh of relief.
