Jose Mourinho and Ander Herrera were both sent off as Manchester United failed to break down Burnley in a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
Mourinho was sent to the stands at half-time for remonstrating with referee Mark Clattenburg, who had failed to award a penalty for what looked a clear foul by Jon Flanagan on Matteo Darmian.
United dominated throughout but found Burnley keeper Tom Heaton - an Old Trafford youth product - in inspired form.
The best of Heaton's stops came from an overhead kick by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose miserable afternoon was compounded on 89 minutes when he fired wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy.
By that time United were down to 10, after Clattenburg showed Herrera a second yellow when he slipped and took out Dean Marney.
One last great chance fell to substitute Wayne Rooney in stoppage time, but he shot over from 14 yards.

TALKING POINT

Did Mark Clattenburg make three crucial errors? He missed an obvious trip on Matteo Darmian in the box, which was a clear mistake. He then sent off Ander Herrera, which while unlucky for Herrera, was nonetheless probably a second bookable offence. But the last one, another penalty denied United for a reckless lunge into Darmian from Marney, was the clearest mistake too. Mourinho would probably have been sent off three times if he was allowed the chance to get back to the technical area.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tom Heaton (Burnley): Burnley will be grateful to Clattenburg for his crucial interventions - not sending off John Flanagan for a second bookable offence and not awarding a penalty for two obvious fouls - but Tom Heaton would probably have saved anything today, including penalties. His most impressive stop came from an Ibrahimovic overhead kick, with a starfish save reminiscent of Peter Schmeichel.

KEY MOMENTS

42’ - HEATON SAVE - Heaton pulls off an excellent save to flick away a Lingard header aimed at the top corner.
45+2’ - PENALTY APPEAL - Flanagan looks like he brings down Darmian in the box, but the Italian defender flung himself to the ground and made it a simple decision. It is a foul, but referees are awful.
46’ MOURINHO IN THE STANDS - Mourinho is sent to the stands at half-time after excessively complaining about Clattenburg's wrong decision.
61’ - HEATON STOP - An outstanding save from Heaton. An incredible save, blocking Ibrahimovic's overhead kick from close range. He may have hurt himself in the process, such was the strength of the shot.
68’ - HERRERA RED CARD - Herrera's been sent off. It always feels in the post with him when he's on a yellow. It was a late, slipping challenge. He tried to pull out and slipped at the last minute, colliding with Marney.
90+3’ - ROONEY MISS - Blind crosses from the free kick, just by the touchline. Blind cleverly cuts it back for Rooney, in miles of space, and he absolutely Gerrards it over the bar.

KEY STATS

Manchester United had 34 shot attempts today, most for United in a match in the last nine Premier League seasons.
Since 1990/91, Man United have had only 1 season in which they had fewer than this season's 15 points after 10 matches: 13 points in 2014/15.
Manchester United have won only one of their last seven PL matches, after beginning the campaign with three consecutive victories.
This was Burnley’s first away point of the season.
